Miguel Oreta
Summer Student
Miguel joins Platform Litigation as a Summer Student where he is excited about the opportunity to apply his passion for social justice while immersing himself in all areas of criminal law. He recently completed his second year at the Allard School of Law at the University of British Columbia. During his studies, he served as the Co-President of the Asia Pacific Law Club, Vice President Internal of the Criminal Law Club, and Vice President External of Legal Education Outreach. He has also advocated for equity and diversity as a volunteer with Pro Bono Students Canada, the Federation of Asian Canadian Lawyers BC’s Advocacy Committee, and the Allard Law Students’ Society Equity and Diversity Committee. He has previously gained experience in criminal law as a caseworker for the UBC Innocence Project, UBC Criminal Clinic, and the Law Students’ Legal Advice Program.
Before law school, Miguel attended the University of British Columbia and obtained a Bachelor of Science Degree where he studied genetics and microbiology. During his undergraduate studies, he pursued directed research in genetics and genomics.

Miguel enjoys expressing his creativity through music and visual media. During his spare time, he can be found directing photoshoots, creating digital paintings, and learning to play new songs on the piano.
